Train Up Your Child in The way of the Lord (Pastor Peter Adebola) 28-04-2015

MY SERMON NOTES
Naming Ceremony
of Miss. Chimnemelum Blossom Samara Uche
@ Federal Housing Estate, Lugbe
Abuja - Nigeria
28th April, 2015

* Speaker: Pastor Peter Adebola
* Topic: Train Up Your Child in The way of the Lord

* Names are very important to God
- God Himself has several names
- When God wanted to do something spectacular in the life of a man, He addresses the issue of that man's name. For instance: God changed Abram and Sarai's names to 'Abraham' and 'Sarah' respectively when He wanted to bless them (Genesis 17:5 and 15); Jacob's name was changed to Israel (Genesis 32:28 and 35:10); Jesus changed Simon's name to Cephas (that is: Peter) (John 1:42)

* Just like God, we must take names important

* Anything of value must pass through a process
→ A great child must pass through rigorous training (spiritually, academically, physically, socially etc.)

Proverbs 22:4 → "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

* Child training in the way of the Lord supersedes any kind of training

* Spiritual training is very important
→ It forms a foundation for a great future

* God will hold you responsible for instructing your children in the way of the Lord
→ You must ensure that they do not grow up to become wayward or backward

1st Samuel 3:13 →" For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not."

Genesis 18:19 → "For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him."

Joshua 24:15 → "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

* God will not hold the church responsible for your failure [in raising your child in the fear of the Lord.]

→ Training of children is generational
2 Timothy 1:5 → "When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also."

* Pay the price to train your children
- A well trained child is a product of consistent instruction and investment in time, prayer, discipline, money, and the like

* Spiritual training outweighs every other training
- Many parents spend a lot of money to ensure that their children get the best secular educational training, but they neglect instructing their children in the fear of the Lord.

* Training of children is a sacrificial venture. It does not come easy, and initially, the child may not even appreciate it!

* You don't have to indulge them in everything
- Generally, children always want to have their way. They want to sleep longer in the mornings; they want to sleep late at night; they don't want to go to school everyday; etc. -  the list is endless!

* As a parent, you have to be tender and tough at the same time
- You must learn to strike a balance when disciplining your children. Avoid both extremes of toughness or permissive tenderness.

* Do not over-pamper your children
- It is good to let the kids have treats occasionally, but when it is too much or too frequent, it becomes detrimental

* You have to train your child today so that the child can be 'traced' tomorrow.
- What you sow in their lives is exactly what you reap in the future

* Your children cannot be 'too young' to be instructed in the way of the Lord
- Some parents think that younger children should not be disciplined or instructed. This is wrong.
- NOTE: Younger children learn faster and retain better!

* "The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous."
Psalm 19:9

* "And he said to the human race, "The fear of the Lord--that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding."
Job 28:28

* "Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided."
Proverbs16:6

* "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."
Proverbs 9:10

* "Wisdom's instruction is to fear the LORD, and humility comes before honor."
Proverbs 15:33

* "The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death."
Proverbs14:27

Old Minds Can't Hold New Blessings (Rev. Mrs Christy Ngasony) 26-04-2015

MY SERMON NOTES

Tudun Wada Ring-Road,
Jos - Plateau State
26th April, 2015

JRA WOMENS' CONVENTION 2015
Theme: Excelling Through Every Season of a Woman's Life

SERMON
* Speaker: Rev. Mrs Christy Ngasony (International Praise Church, Yola)
* Topic: Old Minds Can't Hold New Blessings
* Text: Matthew 9:15-17 (NLT)

Rev. Mrs. Christy Ngasony
* When God wants to change your season, He first changes your pattern of thought

* What you think determines what you get

* As children of God, we face different kinds of 'examinations' in life

* The content of your mind determines your victory, blessings and prosperity

* Your mind is a very powerful tool

* Women that love fashion take new cloth to tailors and ask them to sew it for them
→ If they like the design on an old dress, they take it and use it as a sample
→ They don't sew the new cloth on the old one!

* The bottle (wineskin) is you:
→ the inside space is your mind

2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, new things have come."

* The tradition of men makes the Word of God unproductive
Mark 7:8

* Many people (including Christians) exalt traditional & cultural beliefs above the Word of God

* The word of God can never be productive if your mind is feeding on negative things

* Until your mind is renewed with God's Word, the season of breakthrough that you desire will always elude you

→ Keeping a records of wrongs in a relationship is a sign of the existence of 'old wineskin'
→ Love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8)

* What you have in your mind can either limit you or cause you to breakthrough into prosperity

* What you hear and see matters a lot
→ Watch what you feed your mind on

* A man who does not have regard for women will always be limited in life - He will not go far!

* You must do your best to keep a clean mind towards every one you meet in life

* Even body that comes through your 'road' comes for a reason or for a season

* When your season comes, God can orchestrate events to usher in your season

* It takes just a Word from God to change your season for the better, and you can't tell who God will use to bring that Word

* God can use anybody to change your season

* Anytime you come to Church, don't come with a prejudiced mind (towards the person preaching)

* Many people come to Church for different reasons, not because they want to hear from God
→ Some people just come to socialize with their friends; some come to display their skills & be recognised, etc.; not to 'meet' God

* God knows why you meet with people

* When you are filled with bitterness, pride, hate, dislike, etc. your season for change will come and pass you by (without you recognising it)

* You cannot be blessed if you are not happy with the one God sent to bless you

* An old wineskin will always break because of pressure
→ It cannot stand the test of time

* You must understand times and Seasons
→ (See: 1 Chronicles 12:32)

* Words carry power!
→ Women: Be careful with what you say to your husband; Don't force your husband to also hate those you hate

* God is not a respecter of persons

* God's leadership style is different from those adopted by men

* It is not about how long, but about how committed and loyal you are (to God and to those whom God has set over you)

* Disloyal people never go far in life

* Your key to breakthrough is through faithful and loyal service

* Loyal people never expose the weakness of their leader

* Note: You can't buy favor

* Be careful with what you say about others (in gossip) - it can rob you of your blessings

* whatever you are going through in service, it is only a matter of time; you will experience breakthrough

* Seek opportunities to serve in your local Church

* Whatever you do in secret, one day, it will surely show up in the public (See: Luke 8:17 and 12:2)

* The spirit of covetousness limits and destroys many Christians

* Live a life of forgiveness

* Learn to love the even the unlovable

* When you receive a Servant of God that He has set over you, you receive covering, because a Word from Him will change your Season for the better

* The day a leader gets a good prophet, things change for good

* Unfortunately, there are so many covetous 'Prophets' that are misleading our (political) leaders today
→ They 'corner' them for the advancement of their own selfish ambition

* God Knows why He Kept you in that 'fold'

→ There are people who are always critical of the giving of others and are saddened when they see Ministers of the Gospel looking good and prospering

* The motive you do things would either make you prosper or limit your chances of growth

* If you are a member of a Church, giving to the Church can never be too much; It is your investment

* You can't be blessed if you are always possessed with a critical spirit

* Your season will change if you begin to do the right thing

* It is high time for Christians to the right things
→ If you are budgeting also take cognisance of your tithes, offerings and gifts to those who need help around you

* Always ensure that your mind is renewed with God's Word → (see: Romans 12:2)

* When the opportunity to engage in gossip presents itself to you, your response determines whether you will prosper or not
→ Shun gossip and backbiting

NOTE: Unless You open your eyes to see and do what God wants you to do, you will remain in one place

Relationships (Mrs Patricia Chollom) 26-04-2015

MY SERMON NOTES
@ Jesus Revelation Assembly (JRA)
Tudun Wada Ring-Road,
Jos - Plateau State
26th April, 2015

JRA WOMENS' CONVENTION 2015
Theme: Excelling Through Every Season of a Woman's Life

SUMMARY OF TEACHING
FOR SATURDAY 25th April, 2015
* Speaker: Mrs Patricia Chollom (Lecturer, University of Jos)
* Topic: Relationships
Mrs Patricia Chollom

* God wants you to excel in your relationships

* God has set a standard for us (for relationships) in Jesus Christ

* If you do not have a vertical relationship (with God) you cannot have a horizontal relationship (with people around you)

* If your relationship with God is not complete, you will always have frictions in relating with people around you

* Do not be like the Galatians. They accepted Christ by faith, but they want to work out their salvation by self-effort (Galatians 3:3)

Ingredients for Achieving Successful Relationships:

1. Faith
Rom 1:17"For in the gospel God’s righteousness is being revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, “The righteous will live by faith.”

* Successful relationships Cannot be established and maintained by self effort. It is by faith

* Self effort has limitations, and it will ultimately fail

* By knowing that we are partakers of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4)

2. Love
Ephesians 1:4"just as he chose us in the Messiah before the creation of the universe to be holy and blameless in his presence. In love."

→ The love being referred to here is Agape love (pure, unconditional love)

* God expects us to love unconditionally and to also love the unlovable
→ We love because we have received unconditional love (1 John 4:19)

* For a relationship to be sound, there must not be any iota of suspicion

* Your love should not be like the ones politicians display in Nigeria
→They join a political party and pledge their love and allegiance to that party, but when they Cannot realize their personal (selfish) ambitions, they decamp to another party

* God's love is constant and does not change

Galatians 5:6 →"for in union with the Messiah Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision matters. What matters is faith expressed through love."

→ Faith works (and its expressed) by love

* If the basis of your relationship not love, it will ultimately fail

* Do not love because you are expecting something
→ The moment you don't get what you are expecting, the love will die out naturally

* Always ask God for a dose of His love

* You cannot give what you don't have
→ If God does not fill your heart with love, you become incapable of showing genuine love to anyone

* 1 Corinthians 13 → Describes God's kind of love

* The greatest weapon on earth is love
→ Love is more effective than any known man-made weapon of destruction

* Trust God in faith and allow Him to fill Your heart with His love

* Pursue love as your highest goal (1 Corinthians 14:1)

* Try by faith, not by effort

* Husbands have a responsibility to love their wives
→ Follow Jesus' standard of love (Ephesians 5:25)

* Women: Love unconditionally, whether you are appreciated or not

Counsel to Singles:
(a) Do not fall in and out of relationships (looking for love);

(b) Keep yourself pure;

(c) Remain lovable

NOTE:
→ God made us for relationships

→ God wants to relate with us, and for us to relate with others

→ If you do not want to love, you must relocate to another planet!

Building Blocks for a Successful Marriage (Rev. James Stephens) 25-04-2015

MY SERMON NOTES
Wedding between:
Margret Nuhu Dashwep & Longji Sunday Gunat
@ Covenant Word Christian Centre International (CWCCI),
Plot 2389, Breweries Road,
Opposite Jos Steel Rolling Mill,
Old Airport Road,
Jos - Plateau State
25th April, 2015

SERMON
* Speaker: Rev. James Stephens
* Topic: Building Blocks for a Successful Marriage
Rev. James Stephens

→ Marriage is filled with ups and downs & it usually comes with plenty 'distractions' such as: making time for each other, additional responsibilities, kids, parenting, in-laws, etc.

* Young (single) people should take advantage of their period of singleness to serve God and develop themselves before getting married

* When you get married, you will discover that you do not have as much time as you used to have when you were single

* The Building Blocks for a Successful Marriage
1. Build your home on God's Word
→ Make God's Word The final authority in your home & life

→ You must anchor all your dreams, hopes, educational experiences, logic, personal preferences, beliefs etc. on God's Word

→ Everything must find expression through God's Word

* As a believer God's Word is your ultimate standard, not your educational training, cultural beliefs or societal expectations

→ Submit to one another
Ephesians 5:21 →"...and you will submit to one another out of reverence for the Messiah.

→ Be humble; put the interest of your spouse above your own
Philippians 2:3''Do not act out of selfish ambition or conceit, but with humility think of others as being better than yourselves."

* Whatever your cultural beliefs are, they must be subject to God's Word; if not so, there will be a clash of interests

→ Ensure that you deal with the issue of anger in your life
James 1:19"You must understand this, my dear brothers. Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry."

* The Word of God must always come first before (and take priority over and above) your feelings and temperament
→ Your feelings, opinions and temperament must be subject to God's Word

* A man that will not submit his heart to the Word of God will never submit to any man or woman!

Proverbs 4:7 →"Wisdom is of utmost importance, therefore get wisdom, and with all your effort work to acquire understanding."

* Make time to study God's Word and teach each other as a couple (before and after marriage)

* Regardless of the beautiful physical characteristics a person possesses, without God's Word a man or woman is empty and vulnerable to satanic manipulation

* God's Word is the ultimate restraint that keeps a man from sin
Psalm 119:9 →"How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word."

Josh 1:8 →"This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success."

2. The Fear of the Lord
Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction."

→ You need the wisdom of God to navigate your path through life

→ The fear of the Lord is the restraint that keeps a man in check

→ It is impossible for a person to keep away from sin because of fear of his or her spouse. When such a person is away from his or her spouse and there is an opportunity to sin, without the fear of the Lord, such a person will succumb

Advise to Single people:
→ Instead of looking for a spouse with beautiful physical characteristics, impressive educational achievements or sound financial standing, look for a person who fears the Lord

→ It is the fear of the Lord that keeps a person from abusing his or her spouse physically, emotionally or verbally

→ It takes the fear of the Lord to keep ungodly urges in check

3. Preserve the Original Vision
→ What vision do (did) you have?
→ You must have "seen" something for you to decide to marry your spouse.
→ Keep that vision alive!

Proverbs 29:18"Without prophetic vision, people abandon restraint, but those who obey the Law are happy."

→ The reason why many marriages are crumbling today is because they lost their original vision

→ If you have lost your original vision, there is second chance - for a second touch (See: Mark 8:22-25)

4. Keep it simple
→ Some people are too 'serious' (in their relationship with their spouse), that is why life is serious on them!

→ Simplicity will help your marriage

→ Your home should be a place of joy: the ambience should be welcoming

→ Lighten up your relationship and home with healthy jokes

→ Play with each other

→ Laugh together

→ Enjoy each others' company

* By all means, keep it simple

* If Jesus is missing from your life, you cannot know joy; the best you can experience is happiness

SPECIAL EASTER HOLY COMMUNION (Pastor Victor Amos) 05-04-2015

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

SPECIAL EASTER HOLY COMMUNION
Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN)
Area 1, Garki - Abuja
5th April, 2015

Exhortation
* Speaker: Pastor Victor Amos
* Text: Isaiah 5:1-7

Pastor Victor Amos

* You are the vineyard of the Lord Almighty

* A farmer will do anything possible to make his crops grow well
→ A lot of preparation, hard work and sacrifice goes into planting and tending the crops

* The farmer expects a good harvest after all his efforts

* All the resources you'll ever need to be a 'good fruit' has already been provided by God

* God expects you to bear good fruit

* Have you taken time to reflect on the kind of fruit you are bearing?

* Christian life does not end only in the Church, but it must be seen every where you go

* Serving God, attending Church activities and living a righteous life should be your priority

* You need to balance your commitments so that you do not become unfaithful and unfruitful towards the things of God

* As a Christian, you must always make time for God; Make time to be with the Lord

* NOTE: At the judgment, no excuse from you for being ineffective, unproductive and unfruitful will suffice
