Why should I save sex until Marriage? (Pastor Ambrose Nwogu) 31-05-2016

MY SERMON NOTES
@ NDIC/DMO Fellowship
Central Business District,
Garki - Abuja
31st May, 2016

* Speaker: Pastor Ambrose Nwogu
* Topic: Why should I Save Sex until Marriage?

1. God Commands that we abstain from sexual immorality
Exodus 20:14 → "You shall not commit adultery."

→ God as your father knows what is good for you. He knows the danger in pre-marital and extra-marital sex, and He says 'don't do it'
→ Like babies, we sometimes do not understand God's plan for us, but obedience is to our advantage.

2. There are dangers inherent in sex before marriage such as:
(a) Sexually transmitted diseases of all kinds
→ some of them are incurable
→ treatment is expensive in most cases

(b) Unwanted pregnancy
→ Ladies are usually at the receiving end
→ This is something that can destroy a person's life
→ Many boys deny the ladies when it pregnancy sets in
→ Confusion sets in when the issue of pregnancy is involved
→ Premarital sex opens the door for confusion at all levels

3. The body is not meant for Sexual Immorality
1 Corinthians 6:13 →" Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body."

4. The feeling of Worthlessness
→ When a person engages in sexual immorality, it leads to a feeling of worthlessness before God and before men

* When a young lady looses her virginity, she 'looses it again'.
→ The circle of abuse never stops once it starts!
→ It is like a chain reaction

* A young person who does not maintain his/her stand becomes a disgrace to God, parents and society at large

Prayer:
Father, help me to overcome
Every temptation to loose my chastity.
Cleanse me, uphold me.
Make me whole again.
I do not want to feel worthless in my life
Help me never to trivialize your commandments

Cleanliness (Elder Simon Bunshak) 06-12-2015

★ MY SERMON NOTES
@ Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN)
Area 1, Garki - Abuja
6th December, 2015

SERMON
* Speaker: Elder Simon Bunshak
* Topic: Cleanliness (How to Maintain the Balance between Physical and Spiritual Cleanliness)
* Theme: Growing up in Christ
* Sub-Theme: Wholistic Growth
* Service Leader: Joyce Ahmadu
* Text: Mark 7:1-23

* 'Cleanliness' is defined as the careful avoidance of dirt

* Dirt is a parallel symbolism for sin

Psalm 51:7 →"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."

* When you want to maintain spiritual cleanliness, you have to ensure that your 'inside' is clean

* The cleanliness on the inside is what brings cleanliness on the outside

* Many people place a lot of emphasis on outward cleanliness while forgetting (or neglecting) inner cleanliness

How does inner cleaniness affect outward cleanliness?
→ when you are clean on the inside, every physical activity you do reflects the glory of God
→ what is on the inside determines what is produced on the outside

How does God view cleanliness?
1 Peter 1:15 →"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation."

→ the virtue of cleanliness originates from God himself and He expects you to be clean/holy in every area of your life

Four (4) Aspects of Cleanliness that God wants You to Imbibe:
1. Spiritual Cleanliness
→ This has to do with the prospect of having eternal life and maintaining a vibrant relationship with God

→ This is the most important aspect of cleanliness; but it is also the most neglected

→ To be spiritually clean means that you never cross the line between true worship and false worship

1 Corinthians 7:14 →"For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy."

James 1:27 →"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."

→ You must ensure that what you allow into your life (through sight, sound and thought) is glorifying to God

Jeremiah 32: 35 →"And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin."

→You must avoid involving yourself in any form of untrue worship to God

Mathew 23:25 →"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess."

→ NOTE: The less time you take in cleaning your inside, the less your glory on the outside will be evident

2. Moral Cleanliness
→ This involves keeping your mind & your heart clean before God

→ (the world is alienated from God, because of the prevalence of immorality)

→ when you constantly reflect on bad/unclean things, it eventually becomes your reality

→ Most nagative physical acts begin with bad or unclean thoughts

→ Sin is generally defined as the violation of God's moral standards

→ Anytime you constantly think about a particular sin & meditate upon it, it will surely manifest as a reality in your life

→ What you see, read or hear affects your mind directly or indirectly

→ Christians must always be on guard against any form of moral uncleanliness

On the issue of Dressing:
→ when your 'inside' is clean, you will not need anybody to tell you to dress decently
→ Indecent dressing is a sign of inner uncleanliness. It also has the capacity to project unclean thoughts in others and causing them to lust

NOTE:
→ People are observing you!
→ You are a model to someone. You might encourage somebody to either go to heaven or hell

3. Mental Cleanliness
→ The secret recesses of your mind must not be a repository of negative thoughts

Mathew 5:28 →"But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."

→ Addiction to pornographic films and pictures or suggestive lyrics of songs polutes your mind

→ The type of music you play in your car, house or place of business reflects who you really are (either as a godly or carnally minded person)

→ People take their car to the car wash because they want people to feel comfortable when they enter into it.
* Question: Will people be comfortable when they come in contact with the contents of your heart & mind?

4. Physical Cleanlines
→NOTE: Spiritual and physical cleanliness go hand in hand

2 Corinthians 7:1 →"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

* Physical cleanliness dictates keeping your surrounding clean and avoiding anything that defiles your body such as tobacco, alchohol, drugs etc.

* You must always surmon the courage to help others around you who are dirty by telling them the truth in love

* Cleanliness is next to godliness

* The hallmark of true Christianity is physical cleanliness and decency

Causes of Spiritual Uncleanliness
1. Evil thoughts
→ when a unclean mind conjures up evil thoughts, the evil mind has no choice but to it out Carry
2. Pride
3. Foolishness
4. Sexual Immorality (in all its ramifications)
5. etc

☆ Meditating upon God's word and frequent meeting with other believers can help you live a spiritually clean life

* Cultivating a clean life is an indication that you trust in the unfailing promises of God

Jeremiah 17:9 →" The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?"

→ Only God can dean up the heart of any man

1 Samuel 16:7 →"But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."

* You must pay close attention to the state of both your physical and spiritual cleanliness at all times

* NOTE: Maintaining cleanliness is a choice that you have to consciously make today
→ Choose Jesus today as your Lord and Savior

MISSION CHARGE
"I have learned to use the word 'impossible' with the greatest caution . . . if one advances confidently in the direction of one's dreams, and endeavors to live the life which one has imagined, One will meet with success unexpected in common hours."
→ Henry David Thoreau

QUOTE
"I will! I am! I can! I will actualize my dream. I will press ahead. I will settle down and see it through. I will solve the problems. I will pay the price. I will never walk away from my dream until I see my dream walk away; Alert! Alive! and Acheived!"

Think Good Thoughts Only (Pastor Ishaya Paul Demsa) 28-06-2015

MY SERMON NOTES
@ FOLMI Lighthouse Family Church,
Venue: Nigeria Bible Translation Trust (NBTT),
Old Airport Road, Jos,
   28th June, 2015

PRAISE JAM FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE

SERMON
* Topic: Think Good Thoughts Only
* Speaker: Pastor Ishaya Paul Demsa
* Text: Philippians 4:4-8
Pastor Ishaya Paul Demsa

* Your whole life is 'made up' of your thought life

* Your life can never be better than your thoughts

* Your life is the manifestation of your thoughts

* You can hide your thoughts from people around you, but you can't hide its manifestation

* Your present life is the product of your thoughts over the past years

* God wants your thoughts to be pure and good because if you think good, you will inevitably live good

* The Word of God is given for the primary purpose of transforming your mind

* God's goal is for you to think and live like a god here on earth: this can only be possible through constantly meditating on His Words

* If you are not living like a god, it means you are wasting the God-given resources allocated to you

* Proverbs 23:7a "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..."

POINTS TO NOTE:
1. Fill your mind with good thoughts
→ You cannot put anything more in a container that is already filled
→ If your mind is saturated with good thoughts, evil thoughts will not find an accomodation there
→ Thoughts are powerful: All human inventions (no matter how trivial or sophisticated) are the product of thoughts

2. Fix your mind and attention on beautiful things
→ Continuous thoughts soon become a reality
→ Your mind is a tool for transforming your life
→ God gave you your mind so that you can create your life
→ Anything happening in your mind is a preview of what will eventually happen in your life!

* Romans 12:2 →"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

* Until your thoughts change, your life won't change

* The quality of your thought life determines the quality of your actual life

* The 'mother' of your real life is your thoughts

* Your thoughts have the ability to mold you, more than your actual life ever can

* Your thought life is more realistic than your actual life

* The preparation for success in real life begins in your mind.
→ It is virtually impossible for a man who thinks of himself as a failure to ever become a success in real life

* Those who fail in life had already failed in their minds a long time ago

TWO WAYS THOUGHTS ARE CREATED:
1. Godly thoughts
→ These are the thoughts that proceed from God Himself
* Jeremiah 29:11 →"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

*God is a 'thinking being'

*God's thoughts are not like man's thoughts (See: Isaiah 55:8-9)

*Nothing you do (or fail to do) can ever change God's thoughts about you

Amos 3:3 → "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"
→ The real reason why many people are not living their at their personal best is because they fail to 'agree' with God's thoughts for their life

*All good and positive thoughts come from God
→ Satan does not have the capacity or ability to produce good thoughts that are in conformity with God's Word

2. Devilish thoughts
1 Peter 5:8→"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."

2 Corinthians 4:4 →"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."

* All bad and nagative thoughts are from the devil

*God will never scare you with evil thoughts for any reason!

2 Corinthians 10:5 →"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."

* You must guard your thoughts against all forms of negativity and evil (See: Proverbs 4:23)

* NOTE: Satan can't stand a man of good thoughts

* Thoughts are ideas that are fighting to become real in your life

* The best way to fight a bad thought is to speak out the Word of God that neutralizes it
→ Is order to do this effectively, you must study and memorize the Scriptures regularly

* Thoughts are the foundation of all things

* Question: What are you thinking?

* The easiest thing to do in this life is to think
→ You do not need anybody's permission to generate a thought in your mind

Food for thought: God's mind is full of good thoughts about me!

Purity of Purpose (Bro. Alex Davou) 21-05-2001

* MY SERMON NOTES
@ Rescue Team,
Hwolshe – Gigiring, Jos
Plateau State, Nigeria
21st May, 2001

SERMON
* Speaker: Bro. Alex Davou
* Topic: Purity of Purpose

 * Purity means to be clean/holy

* Purpose is one’s intention (to achieve a particular goal)

* You’ll not be judged by your intention unless it is realized.

* Men have good purposes/intentions but they usually find it hard to achieve them

* There is no greater poverty than that of imagination

* If you believe a lie, you’ll always be controlled by that lie

* Unless you ‘drink’ that which is of the Holy Spirit, you will not know what is of the Holy Spirit

* Unless you fight, you cannot be counted as being part of those who are bold

* The wisdom of the world is limited

* Many acquired wealth out of impunity – it will all be taken away

* If you forfeit your crown, it will be given to another person

* As a Christian, your primary purpose is to please your master – Jesus

* Our beauty as Christians is not physical but that of the spirit

* Everything we do here on earth is for an eternal reward

* If you die today, what will you be remembered for?

* Topic: The Cleansed Life
* Leader: Mr. Habila Dung

OBJECTIVE
→ To learn and know the importance of living a cleansed life for as long as we live

MEMORY VERSE
* 1 John 1:9 →"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

ASSIGNMENT
→ Read: John 13-15

INTRODUCTION
→ God does not use an unclean vessel for works of love and righteousness and power

* Is every miracle-worker cleansed by God?

* Mark 16:17 → "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues."

* Some (miracle-workers) use counterfiet powers to perform signs and wonders; However, Some use God's divine power

* Cleansing proceeds in-filling (unless you are Holy, you cannot be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit)

* Double motives, un-confessed sins can hinder you from being filled with God's power

* God cannot fill those who:
(a) are carnally minded
(b) keep malice with others (hatred and bitterness)
(c) lack of trust in God and His Words
(d) entertain lustful desires (life, eyes & flesh)

* To be a filled vessel, you must be clean

* How can yon be able to recognize the vessel filled with God's power?
→ By the manifestation of the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)

* It is not everyone that falls down during prayer that is filled by the power of God → Some fall under the power of the anointing, while some fall under the power of the enemy

* When unclean Spirits come in contact with the power of God, they screamed, fell, etc
