The Spirit to Rescue (Bro. Joel Bibot) 07-10-1999

MY SERMON NOTES
@ RESCUE TEAM
Hwolshe, Gigiring - Jos
Plateau State, Nigeria
7th October, 1999

* Topic: The Spirit to Rescue
* Speaker: Bro. Joel Bibot

Three (3) Types of Spirits:
1. The Spirit of God
→ This Spirit is Omnipresent, omnipotent, etc.

2. The Spirit Beings (angels and demons)
→ Each of them keeps to his domain and operates there

3. The human Spirit
→ The spirit of man cannot do anything unless he is under the control of the Spirit of God or the devil

* To 'rescue' is to deliver someone from a particular force that is above him

* For you to set someone free, you have to be above that particular force that is keeping that person in bondage

* The spirit to rescue is the motivator, the zeal, the power to move and set someone free

* Souls are being captured by the devil and they need to be set free

* Those who are free from the control of Satan have the mandate to set the captives free

* Most of the souls (in bondage) do not have any knowledge that they are in bondage

* As a leader, launch into what you are meant to do so as to avoid mistakes

* Be very careful before making any decision or a vow

* Allow the counsel and wisdom of God to guide you
→ Do not rely on your own understanding or human perception as you embark on evangelism, deliverance or prayer for those under the captivity of Satan

*NOTE: The act of rescuing is a spiritual (and sometimes physical) battle

* The act of rescuing is not a difficult task, but there are tactics and techniques that must be employed
→ You are not to be in a hurry to rescue.
→ You are not to delay unnecessarily, else the person dies
→ Decisions must be taken with prayers and strong conviction

To Rescue:
1. You need to have Jesus

2. You need the Spirit of the Lord to guide you

3. Rescue the soul(s) at the right time at the right place

Looking unto Jesus 09-09-1999

MY SERMON NOTES
@ Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN)
(Now Church of Christ in Nations)
Headquarters Compound Church
Youth Week
9th September, 1999

SERMON
* Speaker: [no data]
* Topic: Looking unto Jesus

* The secret to spiritual vitality is looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith

* Jesus also ran the race of faith though He faced many obstacles

* There is a prize at the end of the road

* When winning a race, the direction of your face matters a lot
→ An athlete must be a focused person

Psalm 57

* One who must draw vitality from God MUST be focused
NOTE: Everything you look at affects you

* A man who is not looking 'up' cannot get anything from there

James 1:6 → "But he must ask in faith, without any doubts, for the one who has doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind."

* The reason why many who were ordained for greatness did not get there is because they did not fix their eyes on the goal

→ A person who is unstable will never recieve anything from God

* Many Christians are indecisive and unstable in their ways

* God gives His blessings only to those who are not unstable and careless

* Physical things are ordered from the spiritual realm - if you are unstable in your spiritual life, it will manifest in the physical things that can be seen

* No human being is a reference point for our Christian living
→ You should only conform to the image of Jesus

* No human being is indispensable and you cannot fulfil God's desires until your eyes are fixed and focused on Jesus - when He becomes your reference point

* Instability is a major disqualification for a man who wants to walk with God

* The pleasures of this life have the potential to make you unstable
→ The best things in life might not be God's will for you

* The whole duty of man is to fear God

Psalm 73
→ When you consider the prosperity of the wicked (of the world) you'll slip away

* Every advantage in life has disadvantages

* A man that lives in godless pleasure now is actually living in death

* Even if you attain your heart's dreams while here on earth, you still have eternity to face

* You may be happy, but without Jesus, you cannot find true joy (which is a fruit of the spirit)

* Men who do not have God cannot sing in the midst of calamity

Tips for Ministration (Bro. Emmanuel Mabitine) 07-09-1999

Youth Band Rehearsals

EXHORTATION
* Speaker: Bro. Emmanuel Mabitine (Band Leader)
* Topic: Tips for Ministration

1. Pray before and after every ministration

2. Don't let the commendation (or lack of it) from the audience determine your joy

3. Do not over concentrate on the instruments and forget about who you are ministering to

4. Pay close attention to your heart (place it under God's guide)

5. As you minister, believe God for Something definite

6. Learn to pray for your audience

7. When you don't like a song, you will never flow in it - avoid that kind of habit. Sing every song with the whole of your heart

8. See every performance as an opportunity to minister

9. Forget about the pressures and concentrate on God

10. Be disciplined

11. Do not negatively pre-condition your mind before a ministration

12. Know why you are on stage!
→ It is not how popular you are, but what matters is your remaining on stage - You can stand before a King but will you remain before the King?

The Costly Assumption (Bro. Emmanuel Damen) 03-09-1999

★ MY SERMON NOTES
@ Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN)

Hwolshe, Gigiring - Jos,
Plateau State, Nigeria

Youth Fellowship Night Vigil
SERMON
* Speaker: Bro. Emmanuel Damen
* Topic: The Costly Assumption
* Text:
Luke 2:41-52

* Today, people are busy worshipping religion instead of God
→ they erroneously assume that they are serving God, but they are in fact serving something else. This is a costly assumption!

* Jesus Christ does not 'appear' at mere religious activities. He is more interested in having a relationship with you!
→ Many people who profess to be 'Christians' have no personal relationship with Jesus, but instead, they are busy being religious

John 14:23 → "Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him."

* Christianity is a reality, not a mere assumption.
→ Christianity is not a religion - it is a real relationship with Jesus

Ezekiel 22:30"I sought for a man among them to build the wall and stand in the breach in my presence on behalf of the land so that it won’t be destroyed, but I found no one."

* Joseph and Mary were not sensitive enough to notice Jesus’ absence on their journey back home from Jerusalem
- Are you sensitive to the presence of Jesus in your life? Has he left you?

* The Lord has left many 'Christians' yet they do not realise that fact. They still continue their religious activities, oblivious of Jesus' absence (Just like Samson in Judges 16:20)

Galatians 3:2" I want to learn only one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by doing the actions of the Law or by believing what you heard?"

The Gospel Musician in God's Ministry 12-06-1999

MY SERMON NOTES
@ Elratam Network Ministry, Jos
Plateau State - Nigeria
12th June, 1999

ARTS & SPEAKERS

* 2nd Speaker: [no data]
* Topic: The Gospel Musician in God's Ministry

* NOTE: The musician is God's musician and the ministry is God's ministry

* God operates on a full scale of completeness and He expects you to function thus (that is, on 'full current')

* God will not accept partially done work

* Like Israel, what are you asking God concerning your music ministry?

* Most Gospel musicians today are secular musicians with a Gospel tag

1 Samuel 15-17 (Saul does God's instructions his own way)

* Some Gospel musicians carry God's command in a worldly fashion. They engage in quest for fame, money, properties, especially through modifying God's Word to fit worldly styles (So that it would be 'more acceptable' or less offensive to their audience)
→ This should not be so

* When you obey God, you must do it completely

* NOTE: God is grieved when His servants fail Him

John 15:14 →"You are my friends, if you do what I command you."

* Questions to Consider:
→ Who occupies the centre stage in your music ministry?
→ How does God see You?
→ Does He regard you as a rebellious servant?

* God will not accept any form of partial confession of your sins (verse 24)

* God can honour someone temporary for the sake of another faithful servant of His

* NOTE: God will always accomplish his prophesies (Words) in spite of your sins or act of disobedience

* If you don't do what God asks you to do, He will get someone else to do it

* Question: Has God been blessing your ministry because of someone else's faithfulness?

* There are so many unfinished songs that are been produced and sold today as Gospel Music.
⇒ Most of these come from unfruitful and unscriptural minds. God will reject them.

* Question: Are you harbouring any partially confessed sins in your life?

* Question: Who are you more like?
→ Saul (the partial worker)?
→ Samuel (the thorough worker)?

The Music Minister's Worship (Mr. Lewis) 12-06-1999

MY SERMON NOTES
@ Elratam Network Ministry, Jos
Plateau State - Nigeria
12th June, 1999

ARTS & SPEAKERS

* 1st Speaker: Mr. Lewis
* Topic: The Music Minister's Worship
* Text: 2 Timothy 4:6-8 →"I am already being poured out as an offering, and the time for my departure has come. I have fought the good fight. I have completed the race. I have kept the faith. The victor’s crown of righteousness is now waiting for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on the day that he comes, and not only to me but also to all who eagerly wait for his appearing." (ISV)

* God created us and we will one day go and live with Him forever

* While here on earth, we are expected to live in God's will using the gifts and talents He has given us

Matthew 22:37-40''Jesus told him, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is exactly like it: ‘You must love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments.” (ISV)

* You are to love God and serve Him with your all (heart, mind & soul)

* You are also to love your neighbours, regardless of whether they are believers in Christ or not
→ This is the second greatest commandment

* NOTE: These two commandments sum up the aim of the Music Ministry

* We are God's worshippers and evangelists to those who do not believe in Christ

Matthew 18:18-20 →"I tell all of you with certainty, whatever you prohibit on earth will have been prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will have been permitted in heaven. Furthermore, I tell all of you with certainty that if two of you agree on earth about anything you request, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven, because where two or three have come together in my name, I am there among them.” (ISV)

2 Corinthians 5:18-20 →"All of this comes from God, who has reconciled us to himself through the Messiah and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, for through the Messiah, God was reconciling the world to himself by not counting their sins against them. He has committed his message of reconciliation to us. Therefore, we are the Messiah’s representatives, as though God were pleading through us. We plead on the Messiah’s behalf: “Be reconciled to God!” (ISV)

* When Jesus came with the ministry of reconciliation after his death, He passed it to us

* You need to know your ministry to avoid working outside God's will and so that you can one day say with confidence that you have really finished your work

What Worship entails:
1. To acknowledge who God is
2. Respecting God's goodness
3. Act of adoring God's lordship

* Worship can also be the response of an individual to God depending on how God reveals Himself to such a person

* Worship has to with total submission

* How much you know God determines how much you can praise Him

Responses to Worship:
* There are basically two types of responses to worship, these include:

1. Primary Response
→ This type of response lasts for a lifetime!
Romans 12:1 →"I therefore urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercies, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices that are holy and pleasing to God, for this is the reasonable way for you to worship."

* NOTE: This type of worship transforms a person's mind and character

2. Secondary Response
→ This type of response is usually temporary or spontaneous
→ No matter how long it lasts, It usually comes to an end
→ It does not affect or modify the worshipper's inner character

* NOTE: The right kind of songs of worship and praise are the songs that focus on God

* Some Christian music ministers live a different life style from what they sing on Sunday

* If Someone fails in primary level of response, he/she will definitely fail to please God in secondary level of worship

* NOTE: An honest confession will result to a changed life
