* Speaker: Ms. Bose Ehindeiro
* Topic: Repentance

Repentance means:
→ turning away from what you did wrong
→ moving to a better life
→ it is not sorrow because you are caught
→ Turning a new leaf; leaving Your old ways behind
→ being penitent for what someone has done or omitted to do

Act 3:19"Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord." (NKJV)

2 Corinthians 7:8-10"For though I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it—for I see that that letter caused you sorrow, though only for a while — I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death."

Proverbs 28:13 →"Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy."

Repentance means:
(a) Internal sorrow that results in turning away from sin, disobedience or rebellion and turning back to God
(b) Feeling remorse, regret or sorry for what we have done amiss or for past sinful conduct in order to do them no more
(c) A complete turning around from your sinful ways springing up from a godly sorrow, to a new life to complete obedience to Jesus Christ

Ingredients that must be present for there to be repentance:
→ remorse
→ turning around
→ complete obedience

What is the relationship between repentance and salvation?
2 Corinthians 7:10"Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death."
→ godly repentance leads to salvation
if you repent, you will be saved

Two Characteristics of Repentance
1. Repentance from Sin [Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 1:9; 1 John 2:1]
→ godly repentance opens the door of prosperity
→ You have to confess and repent
→ Jesus is our advocate [he defends us and intercedes for us]

2. Repentance from Dead Works [Acts 19:18-19; Hebrews 6:1]
→ Repentance involves confession and a clean break away from the sin.
→ A clean break may involve taking practical steps towards recovery and restitution
→ Do not cover your sins and addictions. It will take you to hell
→ whatever your needs are, God can meet all your needs. You do not need to engage in sinful activities to survive
→ Open confession to one another

How does Repentance affect the kind of Friends you keep, where you go to socialize, what you drink, how you live, etc?
→ There is no relationship between light and darkness
→ When you repent from dead works, your priorities, association  and desires

What happens when you repent?
→ You become a new creature
→ There is joy in heaven

What are the fruits of repentance?
→ godly sorrow
→ complete repentance
→ internal joy and peace

Action steps:
* Prayerfully list out specific 'dead works' you need to turn away from.

Memory Verse:
James 5:16"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
