MY SERMON NOTES @ Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Area 1, Garki - Abuja, Nigeria 4th May, 2014

* Topic: God Desires Justice * Theme: Knowing the will of God * Sub-Theme: God's will for the World * Service leader: Mr. Yunana Mallo * Text: Amos 5:24 - "But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!" * Jeremiah 9:24 - "but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD."
* Justice is the process of accuracy, impartiality & fairness
* God expects fairness & justice to be a part of the life of His people
* Exploitation is not of God
* As children of God, we must treat each other with equality and fairness in all issues
* Prophet Amos was speaking about the sins of the people of Israel
* God was not happy with the prevalent state of immorality & social injustice
* Amos 7:12 - "Then Amaziah sent orders to Amos: "Get out of here, you prophet! Go on back to the land of Judah, and earn your living by prophesying there!"
* Prophet Amos faced persecution because of the message he was Proclaiming
Amos 3:10 - "They do not know how to do right," declares the LORD, "who store up in their fortresses what they have plundered and looted."
* Injustices in the society occur as a result of a dead conscience
* Exploitation in the name of doing business is unacceptable to God. This is wickedness & does not have God's blessings
* Amos 5:12 - "For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts."
* Your Sins Shall find you out
* You cannot hide your Sins from God; He knows what you do in the secret
* Amos 1:4 - "I will send fire on the house of Hazael that will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad."
* God's Judgment will come by fire
* Amos 5:24 - But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!
* As a Christian, you must ensure that you are fair and just in all your dealings
* Christian Lawyers and Judges must stand on Justice
* God is interested in righteousness and uprightness
* God tests our uprightness by Justice
* Our Justice must not be selective or partial
* God is in the business of restoration
* Proverbs 23:18 - There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.
* There is a hope in God |
